Exciting news! With so much gratitude, I wanted to share that Newsweek featured part of my upcoming book, Mindfully Yours: A Therapist's Sobriety Journey to Love–and the Communication Secrets to Keep It.
It feels pretty surreal and empowering to take this step in sharing my personal story along with some practical tips for improving relationships.
The book is set to drop in 2026, and it really dives into common family dynamics, addiction, and society's messaging that can conspire to cause the emotionally unavailably I see plague most couples.
Plus, I talk about how shedding my own masks, including my struggles with alcohol, opened the door to real love.
How Childhood Shapes Emotional Availability
You know, a lot of us grow up learning to hide our true feelings. Emotional unavailability often kicks in as a way to protect ourselves from pain or rejection.
From my own experience, I’ve realized that this can create these invisible walls that keep us from connecting authentically.
In the book, I share how I recognized these patterns in myself and how alcohol was just a way to dodge vulnerability.
Getting sober was a game-changer for me. It forced me to face my fears and insecurities head-on. Sure, it was tough, but it was totally necessary for breaking free from old habits and opening up to love in ways I never thought possible.
The Journey to Sobriety and Love
Sobriety wasn't just about saying goodbye to alcohol; it was about reclaiming my emotional truth. As I peeled away the layers of denial and fear, I found a whole new ability to connect with others. And discovered secrets to breaking through blocks to emotional intimacy that so many of us are unaware we have!

This journey is at the heart of Mindfully Yours, where I share the ups and downs that led me to a more mindful and loving life.
Going through this tough process also showed me how powerful communication can be.
I came up with this method called LOVITATION, which is designed to help couples tackle common relationship issues with honesty and empathy. It's a big part of the book and my work in couples counseling.
Navigating Relationship Challenges with LOVITATION
Relationships can be a real rollercoaster, and even with the best intentions, couples can face challenges that feel overwhelming.
In my book, I share some of my own relationship struggles and how LOVITATION helped us work through conflicts and understand each other better.
LOVITATION focuses on:
Listening deeply without judgment
Expressing feelings clearly and calmly while staying completely in the present moment
Recognizing and validating each other's experiences
Creating safe space for vulnerability
This technique is super practical and accessible, perfect for couples therapy and everyday chats alike.
This message really hits home for me. No matter how lost or broken you might feel, there’s always hope. Love and healing can happen when you’re willing to put in the work to open your heart and communicate authentically.

Final Thoughts on Love, Sobriety, and Communication
Getting this excerpt out in Newsweek feels like such an important step in my journey to help others find love and connection. Emotional availability isn’t set in stone; it can be nurtured with patience and practice.
Sobriety opened my eyes to the power of vulnerability, and LOVITATION is a way to build bridges in relationships.
If you’re feeling stuck or thinking about giving up on love or your dreams, just remember that transformation is possible.
Start with honest communication and a little self-compassion. The road might be tough, but the rewards are totally worth it.
Thanks for reading and supporting me on this journey!
